I thought it would be more appropriate to answer your question about coloring your sketches on one of your sketch pages 
So here is my answer: there is a good quality here with the slightly toned paper, coloring something like this would take away from the pencil strokes. I do enjoy your sketches that allow the characters in the images to interact with some environment. Adding a bit more around your figures works best, so that way there isn't always a singular character. (granted you would make the call on whether or not you want to elaborate more with your sketches, don't force it though).
This image i think has a great balance of negative space and character design, considering we can see the creature from different views. So....it's awesome man!
